ADULT WORKSHOPS
Malke
teaches annually at a variety of music and dance camps (check
her schedule.) She is also available
for special workshop weekends to provide introductory workshops or work
intensively with dance groups or teams. Workshops are available
for all levels in the following subjects:
Cape
Breton Step Dance
Steps,
style, and phrasing of this "neat and tidy" style of step
dance originating in Scotland. Introductory workshops to Master Classes.
Appalachian
Flatfooting & Clogging
Malke
focuses on the solo expressions of these dance styles. Clogging teams
often benefit from learning more about the related flatfoot style as
well as techniques for building "freestyle" competence.
Drum
with Your Feet! Percussive Dance Sampler
A
great introduction to traditional percussive dance styles and making
rhythm with your feet.
Break
It Down/Build It Back Up
A
Malke original workshop. Now that you have the step, how do you
get it to sound the way you want it to? Great question!
Malke can help you demystify the steps in your repertoire, and make you
sound better than you ever imagined! Perfect for all levels of
dancers, teams, and dance groups.
SCHOOL RESIDENCIES & WORKSHOPS
Math
In Your Feet!™
Help your students connect math to their
everyday lives! Combining math, dance, and rhythm is a powerful way
to make the abstract world of mathematics concrete to kinesthetic
young learners. During the residency, students learn clogging steps
and combinations, and explore lessons that lead them through the
problem solving process of creating their own dance patterns. Along
the way, students increase their understanding of mathematical
topics such as geometry (congruence, symmetry/transformation,
angles, degrees), algebra (pattern recognition, symbols, graphing),
and problem solving. Malke collaborated with Presidential Award
winning elementary math teacher Jane Cooney to develop and pilot
Math In Your Feet during the 2003-04 school year. Accompanied
by a video, 80-page teacher guide, and a 35-page Student Workbook.

Drum
With Your Feet!™
School workshops and residencies for
3rd-8th grade that bring clogging alive as a traditional dance form
and as a vehicle for exploring rhythm concepts through movement.
Study guide accompanies all residencies.

SCHOOL PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
STEP-A-TUNE!
Finally, percussive
dancer Malke Rosenfeld and insanely talented and amusing banjo man Sam
Bartlett join forces! How many different ways can you make music using
just your feet, hands, voice, and the occasional straw or…saw? Let your
imaginations run wild as you clap, hum, strum, blow, and tap your world
open to amazing new possibilities for musical self-expression. And,
whatever you do, don’t miss this whirlwind of music and dance from many
related traditions (Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and the American South)
now showing in a multi-purpose room or library near you.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT for EDUCATORS
Math In Your Feet: Teaching Math
through Rhythm and Movement
A 3-hour Professional Development
Workshop for Teachers
Combining math, dance, and rhythm is a
powerful way to make the abstract world of mathematics concrete to
kinesthetic young learners. Using an educational tool specifically
designed by Malke for non-dancers, explore lessons that lead
students through the process of creating their own dance patterns
while increasing their understanding of mathematical topics such as
problem solving, geometry (congruence, symmetry/transformation,
angles, degrees), and algebra (pattern recognition, symbols,
graphing).
Malke Rosenfeld, professional dancer,
collaborated with Presidential Award winning elementary math teacher
Jane Cooney to create Math In Your Feet, the student
residency upon which this workshop is based. Accompanied by a
comprehensive workshop packet which includes workshop scripts,
extension activities, National and Indiana State standards, and
black-line masters of program charts and worksheets.
This workshop was developed in
association with Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University and Young
Audiences of Indiana. As part of this process, Ms. Rosenfeld
participated in the Kennedy Center’s Seminar, “Artists as Educators:
Planning Effective Workshops for Teachers”.
